Resilient Energy Great Dunkilns (REGD) is the first in a number of joint venture renewables companies from The Resilience Centre Ltd and our first operational Community Scale Wind Turbine project.
REGD was set up in autumn 2010 as a 50/50 joint venture between The Resilience Centre and pioneering farmer Mr Anthony Cooke, of Great Dunkilns Farm, following joint investment in preplanning work led by The Resilience Centre.
REGD received full planning permission for a Community Scale Wind Turbine at Great Dunkilns Farm in March 2011 with the overwhelming support of the local village community of St Briavels. Minor amendments, to allow greater flexibility in turbine selection were similarly approved in August 2011 and June 2012.
REGD launched the UK's first Public Debenture investment opportunity for Community Scale Wind in 2012, working with Abundance NRG Ltd an FSA approved agent and arranger. The offer raised £1.4 million with investments from just £5 to £50,000 and target returns of 6.75% - 8% (annual average on invested capital). REGD completed installation of the 87m, 500kW wind turbine in October 2012,and signed a power purchase agreement with Co-operative Energy. Investors in REGD who switch to Co-op Energy for their electricity supply receive a £50 bonus from Co-op Energy.
In spring 2013 REGD established the St Briavels Wind Turbine Community Fund. The project has already donated £4000 to successful applicants (selected by a Advisory Panel of community representatives)in the first of twice yearly funding rounds which will run for the 25 years of turbine operation. Applications are assessed by the panel against the simple criteria of being of community benefit to the local host community (St Briavels and environs)and helping to build community resilience by addressing current needs or future challenges. Allocations of available funds are made by the panel based on merit. The application deadline for the next round of funding is 30th September 2013 with awards anticipated in December. Check out our Turbine Community Fund page for more details of recent awards.
